There is an extensive sport offer from water sports to horse riding, golf or adventure sports, which you can practice a few minutes from the hotel. With an excellent surf school on the beaches of Valdearenas and Canallave.

Routes and trails near the Château la Roca hotel
Our municipality is fortunate to serve as a passing enclave to the pilgrimage sites of Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liebana.
Two routes cross our municipality according to the final destination of the pilgrim. Starting with the one referring to the Camino de Santiago, it runs through what is now known as Avenida de la Santa Cruz where the old pilgrims visited the hermitage of San Mateo or already diverting towards the coast, the hermitage of San Juan de la Canal. From these times memories remain in these two hermitages in the form of niches sculpted with the pilgrim's shell. The reason for the visit to these places away from the main route was none other than to give thanks for having arrived safe and sound since the walks of the time hid not a few problems and vicissitudes.
Another important road in our municipality is that of Santo Toribio. This route departs from Santander and following Adarzo, enters Santa Cruz de Bezana, continuing through Mompía through the local road and leaving our municipality along the branch that leads to Boo de Piélagos. On this route, the pilgrim can visit the church of Santa Cruz de Bezana and the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary of Mompía, although it should be noted that the old church of Bezana was not located in its current location but in the place that today occupies the cemetery.
Costa Quebrada: It is called as such the coastal strip that extends between Cabo Mayor and the Mogro estuary. In it you can find great biodiversity and numerous geological formations, being able to observe from its viewpoints and cliffs a rich set of islands, Tyrol, isthmus, coves, etc. This area is included in the Natura 2000 Network as a special conservation zone.

Route 1: San Juan de la Canal Beach - Arnía

This route begins next to the parking lot behind the beach. We will begin to walk taking the asphalted road that opens to our left and that ascends on this same side of the beach to its end in a private estate. At this point, we will see on our left a path that follows the entire line of the cliff and that will take us to the Arnía beach. In total, they are about 2.7 km. On the trail, we will enjoy the wonderful panoramic views over the beach and the Cantabrian Sea, while we can see on our tour the totem of Covachos and the diversity of birds that inhabit the cliffs. The end of the walk corresponds to the arrival at the Arnía car park that dominates the entire beach.
Route 2: San Juan de la Canal - Rostrío - Vírgen del Mar

We begin this new route from the park located on the right bank of the beach and meeting point for many visitors since the area offers a cozy recreational environment with picnic tables while in its surroundings we can enjoy the beautiful views that they dominate the beach. Following the path of stones that descend in the direction of the canal we will take the wooden bridge that crosses it and that takes us to the other margin from which we can see the hermitage of San Juan de la Canal and the old hydraulic mill.
We will continue without problems along the cliff, continuing along the path that will take us to the Rostrío. Another alternative is to follow the neighbourhood road that, starting a few meters before the entrance to the hermitage of San Juan, continues after the cemetery and the attached urbanizations to finish at the proposed point. However, this new route has the disadvantage of depriving us of the beautiful views that we would certainly enjoy if we followed the initial proposal.
